Extron’s VSC 100 & VSC 100GX convert computer scan rates up to 1024 x
768 to NTSC/PAL, S-Video and 15.75 KHZ RGBS outputs and requires no
software when connected between the computer and the desired output
(Projector, VCR, or any compatible video display). The VSC 100GX has the
same features as the VSC 100 with the addition of Genlock, which allows its
output to be synchronized to other devices, and component video output.
These instructions are for both models, except where otherwise specified.
Front Panel Controls & Indicators
Freeze (switch & LED) - Allows for a still image capture of a scan-converted
computer screen.
Centering/Pan – Shifts the image up or down on the screen.
(V shift, or centering) In Zoom mode, it becomes the up/down
pan control.
Centering/Pan – Shifts the image to the left or right on the
screen. (H shift, or centering) In Zoom mode, it is the left/right
pan control.
Min. Max. LEDs – Flash when the range has reached a limit.
Zoom/Over/Under– Selects from 3 viewing modes: Zoom,
Overscan or Underscan. Use Overscan or Underscan
to fit image onto the screen, or Zoom in and Pan for close-up viewing.
Horz Filter – 2-position switch used to select best picture detail.
Vert Filter – Select from 3 positions to eliminate flicker on output image.
S-Video/RGB – Select RGB (RGBS or RGBHV) or S-Video output. An LED on
the back panel will light next to the active output connector(s). (Composite
video output is always active.)
Signal Lock LED – Off = no signal; Blinking = out of range; On = within range.
Outputs (see rear panel)
a. Composite (NTSC/PAL) - A BNC connector for NTSC or PAL
composite video, depending on the position of the PAL Out DIP
switch on the rear panel. This output is always available. Use BNC/
RCA adapter (10-264-01) if required.
b. S-Video - A 4-pin mini-din connector outputs S-Video or Hi-8 style
video. The LED lights when this output is active.
c. RGBS or RGBHV- 4 BNC connectors provide Red, Green, Blue and
Composite Sync, or use all 5 BNCs to include separate Horizontal
and Vertical sync. The LED lights when this output is active.
d. The VSC 100GX also provides a component video output which is
activated by the R-Y/Y/B-Y–RGBS DIP switch on the rear panel.
This uses BNC connectors marked: R-Y, Y and B-Y.
DIP Switches (see rear panel)
R-Y/Y/B-Y Out (GX only) – Down = RGBS/RGBHV video out;
Up = Component video out. Use R, G and B output connectors.
HV Out – Down for RGBS out; Up for RGBHV out.
PAL Out Switch – Down for selection of NTSC (525 lines);
Up for PAL video output (625 lines).
75 Ohm DIP Switch (rear panel) - monitor termination:
Down = using local monitor (Hi-Z)
Up (75 Ohm) = not using a local monitor.
Use this procedure to connect a VGA PC or a MAC System to a VSC 100/GX.
1. Power Off – Turn computer and monitor Off and disconnect the power cord
from the VSC 100/GX.
2. Outputs – Connect only the cable(s) for the desired format to the output
device (RGBS, S-Video or Composite Video - Component video available
on VSC 100GX). Connecting both S-Video and RGB outputs will cause a
weak output signal and wrong colors may display. Composite video output is
always available (may require BNC/RCA adapter 10-264-01).
3. Inputs –Adapter cable (26-462-01) is used for both the Mac and PC.
Connector type and gender prevent any improper connections between the
computer, monitor and VSC 100/GX. See Rear Panel connectors.
a. Mac – Connect the monitor cable to the Mac Input connector. Connect
adapter cable (26-462-01) from the Mac to the VGA Input on the rear .
b. PC – Connect the monitor cable to the VGA Input connector. Connect
adapter cable (26-462-01) from the PC to the Mac Input.
4. Connect the AC power cord to an active power source.
6. Turn computer monitor power On and then turn computer (CPU) On.
7. For the VSC 100GX, connect an external timing signal to the Genlock input.
Use the Genlock output to daisy-chain the timing signal to another device,
or install terminator if no other device. See User's Manual (68-395-01) for
details on Genlock connectors and controls.
